UCL Citizen Science Academy presents showcase of work by citizen scientists

Presenting a local's view of London, the exhibition ‘Citizen Science Now! Research by the Community’, on show at UCL East Marshgate from 17-23 June, is a collection of work by 'citizen scientists' - local researchers from all backgrounds who have been conducting innovative research within their own communities.

Co-curated by local citizen scientist Twinkle and the UCL Citizen Science Academy Lead Joseph Cook, the exhibition invites you to read the stories of local people, and explore the lives of those tackling the big questions in an ever-changing city: what actually is a ‘good life’? What does prosperity (or lack of) really feel like? Who or what makes a community?

Through captivating stories, photos, maps and artwork, citizens from across London present outputs from their research seeking to make change happen from the bottom up. The exhibition aims to invite the public to reflect on their work, add their own reflections, remember the past, and imagine what a prosperous future could look like.

The UCL Citizen Science Academy, based at the Institute for Global Prosperity, offers training programmes to equip people with research knowledge and practical skills to get involved in social action and influence local decision-making. In London, the Academy has set up programmes for groups in east London, Camden and North Kensington. Their research into the barriers to prosperity for local people, conducted through extensive qualitative surveys and other methodologies, will help to inform policy makers on what’s needed by their communities.
