The death of the American Dream - Professor Moore on Trump's election

There is a concerning mismatch between the idealism of self-reliance expounded as integral to the American Dream, and the reality of lack of access to basic services, in America today.

In an article for the Huffington Post, Professor Henrietta Moore has argued that:

Many Americans cling to a vision of themselves as freedom-loving frontiersmen unconstrained by government ‘oppression’. But on the ground, it’s making obtaining the basics - healthcare, education, social security - far harder for average earners.

Middle income Americans are struggling to finance healthcare, to fund higher education, and face the burden of debt without assistance from the state.
