About this event
Reflecting on learnings from projects including Serpentine’s General Ecology; the opera-performance Sun & Sea and others, art and ecology curator Lucia Pietroiusti discusses the possible roles art, culture and cultural organisations can play towards environmental justice and balance – seeking holistic, artist-driven and systems-led strategies for finding purpose in a time of breakdown.
About the speaker
Lucia Pietroiusti is Head of Ecologies at Serpentine, London. As a curator, Pietroiusti works at the intersection of art, ecology and systems, often outside of the exhibition space. She was the founder of Serpentine’s General Ecology project (2018-ongoing) and the curator of Sun & Sea (Lithuanian Pavilion, 2019 Venice Biennale and 2019-25 tour), 8th Biennale Gherdeïna (with Filipa Ramos), Back to Earth (Serpentine, 2020-ongoing) and The Shape of a Circle in the Mind of a Fish (also with Filipa Ramos). Recent publications include More-than-Human (with Andrés Jaque and Marina Otero Verzier) and Microhabitable (with Fernando García-Dory).

About this event series
Cultural Spaces for Democratic Participation, Political Expression and Shared Prosperity
This Director’s Seminars and Soundbites series explores how citizens mobilize new physical and digital channels of political participation, and what can be done to create and adapt these cultural spaces so as they make positive impact on democratic life in the 21st Century.
Soundbites are a platform for professionals and entrepreneurs who are leading in their field. Speakers are innovators and inspiring actors working in new and traditional sectors, outside of academia. The Soundbite gives the audience an insight into how their organisation contributes to sustainable and inclusive prosperity.
