The RELIEF Centre’s 2022 conference addresses livelihoods, through the lens of ‘vital prosperity’ – a vision of livelihoods recovery that delivers on the essential provisions of jobs, goods and services, while strengthening collective social vibrancy and vitality.

Livelihood strategies – understood as the creation, exchange and distribution of resources and services – are inherently social processes that can involve competition and exclusion, as well as collaboration and solidarity. They can increase social tensions and add to existing pressures, but they can also revitalise communal networks and enable people to flourish.

The panels in this conference will explore if and how recovery strategies in Lebanon can support visions of vital prosperity through research, action, and innovation in various areas across the country. They will specifically address the key themes of infrastructures and services, informal economies, education and training, evidence-based policy design, and the power of entrepreneurship to deliver social change. These themes will be discussed from a transdisciplinary perspective, bringing together academics, citizen scientists, policymakers and entrepreneurs who are committed to research and action for better livelihood opportunities in the midst of these challenging times.
