Student Research for a Sustainable Future – UCL Sustainability for Higher Education Initiative event

Four of the top Master’s dissertations from The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources were showcased at an event connecting academics, alumni and students with the rest of the Higher Education sector and general public interested in sustainability.
The UCL Sustainability and Higher Education Initiative organised a dissertation research showcase to demonstrate how our students are applying knowledge gained from their Masters degrees to solve sustainability, heath and wellbeing challenges with their own original dissertation research.
Four recent MSc graduates from Light and Lighting MSc, Environmental Design and Engineering MSc, Health, Wellbeing and Sustainable Buildings MSc and Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environment MSc shared their research. From gender equality and social inclusion in energy planning, to passive cooling design strategies in epilepsy care homes, the students excellent presentations demonstrated the breadth of research interests in our School.
The presentations were:
- To what extent are there light sensation differences between neurotypical and neurodivergent populations using LED in an office environment – Beatrice Yuen, Light and Lighting MSc
- Assessing the effectiveness of passive cooling design strategies to reduce overheating in epilepsy care homes in the UK - Varsha Kakuturu, Health, Wellbeing and Sustainable Buildings MSc
- Retrofitting proposal for a dwelling in London considering unintentional health consequences and Energy Efficiency Measures - Rodrigo Martinez Perez, Environmental Design and Engineering MSc
- Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) in Energy Planning in Kenya – Status-quo and Action Points for Improvement - Janina Fuchs, Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environment MSc
Lorenzo Lotti, Director of the Sustainability and Higher Education Initiative (SHEI), and Deputy Director (teaching) at the Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources (BSEER) said:
