18 March 2024
Dr Jordana Ramalho and Dr Pascale Hofmann from The Bartlett Development Planning Unit (DPU) alongside Prof. Priti Parikh and Dr Margarita Garfias Royo from The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction (BSSC) have been awarded £2.25 million by UKRI.
The award under UKRI's 'Equitable nature-based climate resilience in Sub-Saharan Africa' funding call is granted for the project entitled ‘Listen, Learn & Leap: Co-producing Equitable and Sustainable Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for Climate Resilience in East African Cities’.
The project is a three-year action research collaboration between DPU, BSSC, Kounkuey Design Initiative (KDI) in Kenya, Ardhi University and the Centre for Community Initiatives (CCI) in Tanzania, and ICLEI Africa.
The research project will explore the socio-political factors that support the uptake, sustainability, and institutionalisation of NbS in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam with a particular focus on centring the perspectives and interests of young people, and especially adolescent women and girls in informal settlements, in the design and management of localised NbS.
