The Bartlett EDI Group, consisting of staff from across the Faculty, was formed to tackle key staff and student EDI issues, and to take forward the Faculty’s EDI action plan.
Chaired by Sara Shafiei, Vice-Dean (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion), the group works on issues both independently and in small cross-faculty groups, and meets termly to review progress and address these key goals:
- Build inclusive curricula to improve the experience, skills and attainment of all students
This means:
- Our educational offering enables students from minority groups especially to participate fully
- Eliminate any attainment gap by gender, race and/or ethnicity
- All teaching staff are aware of and plan for an inclusive curriculum
- Diversify our student body
This means:
- Ensure our undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research students reflect the diverse communities they go on to serve
- Support our Access and Widening Participation initiatives to increase the number of under-represented groups at The Bartlett, particularly Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) students
- Find ways to improve what we can offer under-represented student groups
- Diversify our staff body and improve the representation of minority groups at senior levels
This means:
- Provide focused encouragement and support for career development and academic promotions, particularly for groups under-represented at senior levels
- Up-skill ourselves to manage and mitigate any bias in our recruitment
- Create a working culture that values difference and enables all staff to reach their full potential
- Capture and share progress and lessons learnt
This means:
- A commitment to continual learning through critical reflection and assessment
- Adjust our path to progress in light of new knowledge
