Life in Sweden

Sports in Sweden

Swedes really make the best use of their snowy and icy surroundings, especially when it comes to sport. Sports such as ice hockey and skiing are very popular and you will see many Swedes taking part in the winter Olympics.

Vasaloppet is a cross country skiing race that more than 15,000 people take part in every year. The race is 90 kilometers long so if you are going to compete you have to be in pretty good shape!

Swedes like to exercise all year round, not just in the winter. In the summer parks are full of friends playing brännboll (the Swedish version of rounders), people jogging and people playing a game of football. Football is really popular in Sweden and some famous players have even made it over to play for famous British teams such as Freddie Ljungberg, Henrik Larsson and Olof Mellberg. A Swede even became the manager of the England football team. How can we forget dear old Sven-Göran Eriksson!
