Famous - and not so famous - Danes
You already know some Danes. Did you know that...
Hamlet was Danish? Although the Danish name of the prince is Amled. The story first appeared in Latin in a history of Denmark written by the Danish writer Saxo Grammaticus in the twelfth century.
And the consort of James I was a Dane. Anne of Denmark (1574-1619) married James VI of Scotland in 1589. As a dowry she brought the Orkney islands and the Shetland islands to Scotland.
