Organic Materials in Archaeology

This module provides an introduction to the production and use of organic materials in prehistory.

The significance of practical experience, experimental archaeology and hands-on approaches in museums will be discussed. We will look at antler, bone, horn, shells, skin and leather, glue, vegetable fibres and wool, weaving, felting, twining, basketry, dyeing and woodworking and try out some of the techniques, like bone working, spinning, weaving and twining.
