The module will examine issues which include: the emergence of symbolic behaviour and "modernity" in the archaeological record; the adaptations of hunter-gatherers to the harsh environments of the last glacial period; the analysis and interpretation of Palaeolithic art; the colonization of Australia and the Americas; and the transformations in hunter-gatherer societies prior to the beginnings of farming.
