The Lithics Laboratory is a dedicated graduate research facility in the UCL Institute of Archaeology, which opened in 2009. It is designed to encourage research dealing with various aspects of lithic analysis including technological/ typological studies, experimental replications and microwear studies.The laboratory has facilities that enable all steps of stone artefact studies to be carried out, such as computers, scanner, electronic balances, calipers, light table, hand and head lenses, microscope and wide tables for material layout. A photography area is also available, including a photography stand, a digital camera, and photography software. In addition to graduate research in lithics, several Institute research projects use/have used the laboratory facilities, including the Buendia Project and the Olduvai lithics experimental project.
