Through its world-class research and teaching and external engagement, and the way it operates as an institution, the UCL community of staff and students is playing a leading role in responding to the challenges set out in the UN SDGs.

The Unlocking the SDGs podcast series, which brings together experts from across UCL and beyond to explore the SDGs, is hosted by Professor Priti Parikh (The Bartlett, UCL’s School of Sustainable Construction) and Professor Monica Lakhanpaul (UCL Great Ormond Street Institute for Child Health).

In this first episode of the second series, Johanna Zetterstrom Sharp (Associate Professor in Heritage Studies), together with Professor Nicola Miller, Institute of Advanced Studies, consider the question of culture. It is a topic that hasn't been central to the SDGs to date, at least not explicitly, but perhaps should have been. They discuss what should be the role of culture, and can we achieve the goals without considering it?
