IoA Alumnus Joseph Coelho appointed Children's Laureate

16 November 2022

Charlotte Frearson interviews IoA Alumnus Joseph Coelho (BA Archaeology, 2002) who has been appointed Waterstone's Children's Laureate for 2022-2024.

Joseph Coelho (UCL Institute of Archaeology alumnus and Waterstone's Children's Laureate 2022-24)

Charlotte recently recorded a podcast with Joseph where he discussed his time at the UCL Institute of Archaeology and how his interest in both archaeology and drama led to his career as an author and poet and now Waterstone's Children's Laureate.

Joseph joined the Institute in 1999 and was the Society of Archaeology Students (SAS) President during his time with us. He was also a member of the Drama Society at UCL and helped direct plays at the Bloomsbury Theatre.

Joseph chose to study at the Institute due to the wide variety of module options available to study as well as the fieldwork opportunities. He undertook archaeological fieldwork in Peru and participated on a project supporting local farmers, which he developed for his undergraduate dissertation.
