British Commission for Maritime History: Prize for Undergraduate Achievement in Maritime History, 2022

Maria's first award was from the British Commission for Maritime History which awards a small number of prizes each year recognising excellence in undergraduate dissertations in the broad field of maritime history.

Subjects eligible for consideration reflect the Commission’s view of maritime history as a wide-ranging discipline. It includes topics such as shipping, seafaring, ports, seapower, maritime labour, coastal communities, trade, exploration, shipbuilding, navigation, and fishing, and embraces a wide range of political, economic, social, technological and cultural approaches.

Royal Archaeological Institute’s Tony Baggs Undergraduate Dissertation Prize, 2022

Maria has also been awarded the Royal Archaeological Institute’s Tony Baggs Undergraduate Dissertation Prize.

The RAI awards a dissertation prize each year for either an undergraduate (Tony Baggs Undergraduate Dissertation Award) or Master's dissertation on a rotating basis. The prize goes to the best dissertation on a subject concerning the archaeology or architectural history of Britain, Ireland and adjacent areas of Europe. The chief criteria considered are (a) quality of work and (b) appropriateness to the interests of the RAI as reflected in the Archaeological Journal. As part of the prize, the winner receives one year's membership subscription and the opportunity for a paper based on their dissertation to be published in the Archaeological Journal.

Many congratulations Maria!
