Publication of Chinese language edition of Heritage: Critical Approaches

A virtual seminar and launch event is due to take place on 23 June to announce the publication of the Chinese language edition of Rodney Harrison’s book Heritage: Critical Approaches.

First published in English by Routledge in 2013, the book Heritage: Critical Approaches has since become a key text within the field of Critical Heritage Studies and has also been published in an Italian language version.

The launch event for the Chinese language edition is jointly organised by the School of Archaeology and Museology at Peking University, the School of History at Capital Normal University and Shanghai Ancient Books Publishing House.

Rodney Harrison will participate in the event alongside prominent Chinese scholars including Prof Hang Kan, Professor of Archaeology and Museology at Peking University and Dean of Yungang Research Institute, who provided a preface to the Chinese language edition of the book, as well as the translators of the book Dr Wang Siyu, Assistant Professor of Archaeology and Museology at Peking University and a Researcher at the UNESCO Training and Research Centre for World Heritage in Asia and the Pacific in Beijing, and Dr Fan Jailing, Assistant Professor of Archaeology and Museology in the School of History and Vice-Director of the Centre for Museum Development and Research at Capital Normal University (Beijing).

The book includes a new introduction especially written for the Chinese language edition, jointly authored by Rodney and the translator, Fan Jailing. 

The UCL Institute of Archaeology has a long association with researchers and students in, and from, China. As a joint association between the School for Archaeology and Museology of Peking University and the UCL Institute of Archaeology, the International Centre for Chinese Heritage and Archaeology (ICCHA) is dedicated to the promotion of China's cultural past and the facilitation of communication between Western and Eastern scholars.
