CAA/ASE Job Vacancy: Albanian heritage management project

The UCL Centre for Applied Archaeology/Archaeology South-East requires a short-contract staff member to work on a specific project on Butrint, Albania.

Applicants should have had experience of working in a commercial environment and be familiar with the demands of a busy cultural heritage team. Applicants will be responsible for providing specialist technical input to the Butrint integrated management plan writing process.

The post will be based at the Archaeology South-East offices near Brighton.

Applicants should have a post graduate qualification or equivalent experience in the study of cultural heritage management and practical experience in archaeological/heritage work and the provision of consultancy advice. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Experience of the analysis and researching cultural heritage in Albania
  • A high level of understanding of the setting of Butrint national park
  • A high level of understanding of local vernacular traditions
  • Knowledge and understanding of historic environment legislation
  • Ability to undertake documentary and map research
  • Knowledge of background literature, including the site-related works in different languages
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • Experience of providing consultancy advice to clients, local authorities and heritage bodies

A current driving license is desirable, as is a willingness to travel within ASE's core area of business. Applicants should ideally have some knowledge of Albanian and know how the process of management planning work.
