UCL Institute of Archaeology PhD project featured in prestigious chemistry journal
10 July 2018
Research by UCL Institute of Archaeology PhD student Hayley Simon was selected for the cover of the May edition of Angewandte Chemie, the journal of the German Chemistry Society.
Hayley's work involves investigating the impact of 30 years of conservation treatments on the condition of the cannonballs recovered from Henry VIII's flagship, the Mary Rose.
Her project, undertaken in collaboration with the Mary Rose Trust and Diamond Light Source, involves the analysis of the cannonballs and their corrosion products using sophisticated X-ray techniques at the Diamond synchrotron.
