The Sir David Wilson Lecture 2019 will now be given by Gareth Williams (The British Museum) entitled 'From Ashdown to the Burghal Hidage: Alfred's rise to "greatness" reconsidered'.
The event is a joint meeting with the Institute of Historical Research Earlier Middle Ages seminar, followed by a launch party for the seminar series in the Institute of Archaeology Staff and Research Student Common Room. Thirteen recent volumes published by members of the seminar group will be launched during the evening alongside an important data release from the Leverhulme Trust-funded Beyond the Tribal Hidage project
The Medieval Seminar Series is sponsored by the World Archaeology Section at the UCL Institute of Archaeology and the British Museum.
All meetings start at 6.15pm at the UCL Institute of Archaeology. Attendees are invited to bring news items for announcement before the start of each seminar.
