Introduction to Project Management
Course Description:

This interactive online (3 part) course will introduce you to some of the essential skills and techniques of planning and managing projects.  It applies to all those managing broad workloads, with multiple deadlines and stakeholders, irrespective of the type of project.  The course will include practical exercises, in which you will try out some of the key concepts discussed either individually or in groups. You will also be asked to look at digital content in between the sessions.

The sessions will cover:

  • How projects differ from an organisation's daily work, and the implications for what we need to manage.
  • Understanding the project lifecycle and the key elements that need to be managed, including agreeing on the project's scope, planning tools, monitoring progress, and project closure
  • Key project roles, including that of Project Sponsor and understanding stakeholders' relationships to the project

Objectives:

By the end of the course, you will have:

  • an understanding of the importance to UCL of managing projects effectively
  • an understanding of the key aspects and tools of managing a project through a lifecycle
  • an appreciation of the key project stakeholders and how to manage the relationship with them
