Director's message on the war in Ukraine

25 February 2022

SSEES Director, Prof Diane P. Koenker, recognises that today is a day of great sorrow. Speaking personally, she deplores the decision of the Russian government to wage war against its sovereign neighbour Ukraine. Speaking for SSEES, we want to convey our deepest concern for our students and colleagues in and from Ukraine and their families, and also for our students and colleagues in and from Russia and their families. We are here to support our community at this time of tragedy, fear, and uncertain future.

UCL understands that the situation currently unfolding in Ukraine is dangerous and will be distressing for our students and staff.  We are closely monitoring the situation and strongly recommend that you follow Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advice, which currently advises against all travel to Ukraine and all but essential travel to some regions of Russia. There is further information on support for staff and students affected by the situation in Ukraine. Our thoughts are with everyone affected at this difficult time.
