The students were selected by In2Science and the Social Mobility Foundation as part of schemes which encourage young people from low university participation schools or backgrounds to apply to university. The students were based in the Health and Social Surveys Research Group, with Dr Sadie Boniface as their main supervisor. They worked with academics not only from across HSSRG but also from other UCL Departments too.

The UCL Research Department of Epidemiology and Public Health is offering two one-year Studentships for full-time students undertaking the MSc in Health and Society: Social Epidemiology (The Michael Marmot UCL Studentship in Social Epidemiology) and Dental Public Health (The Aubrey Sheiham UCL Studentship in Dental Public Health). The awards will start in October 2014 and the Studentships will consist of £2,500 towards tuition fees. The recipients will be expected to secure the remaining part of their tuition fees and to cover their living costs.
UCL Health and Society Summer School: Social Determinants of Health (14-18 July 2014)

The one week non-residential UCL Health and Society summer school: Social Determinants of Health will be held from 14-18 July 2014 at UCL in central London. The summer school is organised by the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. It provides an indepth assessment of the social determinants of health from a global research, policy and governance perspective. Participants will have numerous opportunities for discussion over the one week course.
EPH Poster Competition 2014

The Dept of Epidemiology recently held its annual PhD Poster Competition on Thursday 9th January 2014. The overall quality of work shown on the day was of a particularly high standard this year and both judges expressed how difficult it was to pick a winner on the day.
