Clinical Research

main

Clinical research is closely linked to the activities of Microbial Diseases and Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering. To ensure effective clinical studies the Eastman has developed the Clinical Investigation Centre. The Eastman Clinical Investigation Centre (ECIC) is a state of the art clinical research unit where a significant number of RCTs and case control studies in periodontology and surgical implantology in the areas of wound healing and inflammation are performed funded by strategic industrial partners, research charities and the CBC. The ECIC is performing the clinical research based on the research findings of the EDI research divisions and research priorities and currently 5 staff members from the Periodontology Unit are appointed on funding deriving from grants to support the related activity.

Clinical research is aided by close alliance with the Institute's Biostatistics Unit, International Centre for Evidence Based Oral Health and Library.

Research in the division is encompassed by three themes:

Wound Healing

Outcome Based Oral Health

Inflammation and Infection
