Introduction to the Urban Lab for new and returning UCL students
30 September 2020
As induction week begins for newly arriving UCL students, we have produced an introduction pack to the UCL Urban Laboratory, covering our history, current activities, and how students can get involved in our work.
You can download the introduction pack (pdf) or view it in the reader below. You can also view our student introduction presentation (ppt) on our website.
Formed in 2005 with the intention of bringing together the best urban teaching and research at UCL, we are at the forefront of critical and creative urban knowledge exchange, thinking, engagement and practice internationally.
Recent projects have included research on the decline of LGBTQI night-time venues in London; research on universities roles as actors in the regeneration processes of cities; a mapping exercise of cultural infrastructure in the environs of London's Olympic Park; and working with an artist-in-residence to produce a meditative film on the Shard that questions the relationship between the individual and the larger global dynamics of finance in the City.
