Book launch: Engaged Urbanism
09 December 2016, 6:30 pm–9:00 pm
Free Word Centre, 60 Farringdon Road, London EC1R 3GA
UCL Urban Laboratory launches its new edited anthology Engaged Urbanism: Cities and Methodologies
on Friday 9 December 2016. Responses will be provided by Aditya Chakrabortty (The Guardian) and Andreas Lang (Public Works).
Published by I.B. Tauris, and edited by Dr Ben Campkin and Professor Ger Duijzings, Engaged Urbanism
showcases the exciting ways urbanists are responding to the variety and
dynamism of contemporary cities across the globe - from Beirut to Johannesburg, Kisumu, London, Mumbai and Rio de Janeiro.
In this handbook of collaborative and experimental research practices, over forty contributors provide succinct, frank and carefully illustrated commentaries on the trials and successes of risk-taking research. They reveal how they collaborate across fields of expertise, inventing or adapting methods to bespoke situations and common challenges. At once theorists, artists, designers, or activists, what binds them is a commitment to better, fairer, cities.
The book will be
available for the discounted price of £15 at the launch (RRP £25). It will be
on general release worldwide on 1 December 2016.
The launch is presented
in partnership with Free Word.
A limited second release of tickets will be available from 8pm on Thursday 1 December, to celebrate the release of the book on the same day. Please RSVP on the Free Word website.
