UCL and the London Borough of Newham (LBN) have announced that their negotiations regarding a possible UCL-led redevelopment of the Carpenters Estate, adjacent to the Olympic Park, have ended without agreement. It has not been possible for both parties to agree commercial terms. However, both UCL and LBN have indicated that they will continue to work together to explore other site options for a UCL-led development in Stratford.

On 10 May UCL Urban Laboratory will participate in a UCL seminar on universities and urban development as part of a new series exploring the future role of universities. Professor Allan Cochrane, Head of Social Policy and Criminology, and former Pro-Vice Chancellor, The Open University, Alan Harding, Professor of Public Policy and Director of the Institute for Public Policy and Practice, Management School, University of Liverpool, and Dr Pushpa Arabindoo, UCL Urban Laboratory, will explore the local and global spatial development strategies of universities.
