We are looking for people to join the Research Support Transformer User Network

26 June 2019

We are looking to build our user network with colleagues from professional services divisions, academic faculties and Vice Provost Offices, who are involved in supporting, managing and delivering research at UCL.

What is the user network?

We believe that the best way to deliver services that work, is to involve those who use and provide the services in their design from the outset.

So, we are planning to create a user network containing members from across UCL’s research community to build a rich understanding of the research lifecycle and understand what support colleagues need to continue delivering world class research.

The user network is not a formal group that will meet regularly, but rather a network of interested experts that the design team can work with in an agile way to help shape the transformation of research support.

Who are we looking for to join the user network?

We are looking to build our user network with colleagues from professional services divisions, academic faculties and Vice Provost Offices, who are involved in supporting, managing and delivering research at UCL.

If you fall into any of the following categories, and would be interested in shaping the future of research support at UCL, we would love to hear from you:

  • Principal Investigators
  • Academics researchers (both staff who have a full-time research focus and those that have a mixture of teaching/research responsibilities)
  • Professional service staff in PS Divisions, Vice Provosts Offices and Faculties/Departments/Divisions/Institutes who:
    • Provide support across the Research Lifecyle (please specify your role below)
    • Work in full time research support roles such as Research Managers, Research Administrators, Research Facilitators etc.
What will I have to do as a member of the user network?

Throughout the Research Support Transformer project, we will work with the user network in a variety of ways to co-design new support services. We will contact particular users in the network to participate in various activities, such as:

  1. We will conduct 1-2-1 interviews with users to understand their current experience of specific parts of the research lifecycle and pathways
  2. We will invite users to participate in co-design workshops
  3. We will take ideas and prototypes to users to test and ask for their feedback

We want to work dynamically and may ask members of the network to be involved in one or multiple sessions. We anticipate the time required to be part of the user network will be no more than a few hours a month and form part of your current working hours.

Once the network is set-up, we plan to engage across the network as much as we can to ensure that all colleagues that wish to input have the opportunity to. However, the frequency and number of engagements that we will be able to manage will depend on the number of people that sign up.

Join the user network

To help us ensure we involve colleagues in the most appropriate sessions, we’d ask that people interested in joining the user network share their details below. It’s really quick and will only take a minute.
