Sustainable UCL

UCL has committed to reducing its energy consumption by 40% and for its buildings to become net zero carbon by 2024. While we have switched to 100% renewable electricity, the most effective way to reduce our carbon footprint is to reduce our energy use, which you can help with by participating in the Easter Switch Off!

How to get involved:

Decide your Switch Off Actions

Use Sustainable UCL’s checklists to see what you could switch off. Do you work in an office? There’s no need to use up egg-stra energy, so make sure your screens and appliances are completely off rather than on stand-by before leaving for the holidays. Are you living in halls? Chick out what you can unplug before you go.

Make your pledge to switch off

Make your pledge via this form by the 13th of April, and be in with a chance to win prizes for your department and/or accommodation. There are prizes up for grabs for the egg-cellent department or division and the student hall which has collectively made the most pledges!

Encourage others to switch off

Use the resources provided by Sustainable UCL, including email templates and posters. Post about the Switch Off on social media, tagging @SustainableUCL and using the hashtag #ChangePossible. Include a picture of yourself showcasing your eggs-pertise switching off if you can!

Lastly, the Sustainable UCL team wishes everyone a restful break and we look forward to continue working with many of you once we’re back and fully recharged.

UCL closes to all non-UCL staff and students for Easter from 5.30pm Tuesday 12 April to 9am Tuesday 19 April.
