Research led by Dr Ioannis Kosmidis used to optimise training schedules of gold medal winning athletes at 2016 Olympics

18 September 2016

Data-analytic methods developed by the Department's Statistics in Sports and Health Research Group have been instrumental in the optimisation of the training schedules of English Institute of Sport (EIS) supported, gold medal winning athletes at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

This is the result of ongoing research work to uncover the structural and statistical dependencies between fitness, fatigue and performance, led by Dr Ioannis Kosmidis (Senior Lecturer in Statistical Science) in collaboration with Dr Hannah Frick (PDRA in Statistical Science) and with physiologists and performance scientists at EIS.
