Why did you choose to study at SSEES?
My decision to study at SSEES was mostly influenced by studying the region in A-Level History. I had never studied sociology before; the way SSEES teaches ensured that everything was covered in the introductory modules, making it accessible to everyone. Being a SSEES graduate in 2023 has taught me how to properly apply concepts in current affairs the moment they occur.

What was the motivation behind studying your chosen course?
During high school, I was very much into Model UN, which introduced me to studying politics and international affairs. I found territorial disputes extremely interesting and wanted to delve more into the background story of such issues, hence shifting to studying Politics and Sociology.

What did you enjoy most about your studies?
How diverse UCL is! I made friends from all continents of the world and had the chance to talk about many issues and hear other people's perspectives, which wasn't always what I thought it would be.

How would you describe your time at UCL, what was the highlight?
I joined UCL amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, but that didn’t influence my time at UCL; I was able to make friends and join societies. The highlight was looking back at my first day during graduation, from where I started to where I currently am!

What are you doing now, and what are your plans for the future?
Currently, I’m a postgraduate taught student, pursuing an MA. I’m hoping to continue in academia and become a researcher in the field of geopolitics and territorial issues.

What advice would you give to current students?
Be open to trying new things, give yourself credit, and learn from your mistakes!
