- Language Modules
New Language
These modules aim to provide a competent reading knowledge and basic communicative skills in the language. Students who complete the course successfully will be able to assure both potential employers and academic supervisors that they possess the necessary foundation-level language skills to work with original texts and to enable them to undertake study and/or research in the countries where the language is spoken.
The modules are designed for beginners, i.e. for students who do not already speak or understand the language. They require intensive study and applicants must provide evidence of language learning ability.
Assessment is by written examination (75%) and oral examination (25%).

Intermediate Language
These modules aim to develop a range of language skills primarily for the purposes of conducting research: to support master’s dissertation work, for PhD research and for use in other contexts where advanced reading skills, along with a range of further skills, are required.
By the end of the course the student will be well equipped to read written material for research purposes, and will also be able to talk and write about his/her research interests/topic, as well as having developed a more general competence across the range of productive and receptive skills.
Assessment is by written examination (70%) and oral examination (30%).
