My principal research interests lie in the fields of applied sociolinguistics and critical language pedagogy. My research is broadly concerned with the study of languages with similar type of internal variation as Serbo-Croatian (Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Serbian), the so called pluricentric languages, the concept of koiné and koineisation, language standardisation and ideological strategies of differentiation, and attitudes to language change and variation. I am also interested in how linguistic diversity is addressed by various non-specialist stakeholders ranging from policy makers to educational institutions. More specifically, how education training in language skills involves the inclusion or disregard for critical language awareness and reflection on social, political and economic factors that shape the context of teaching and learning.
At SSEES, I teach Serbo-Croatian (Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Serbian) to undergraduate, masters and doctoral students. Courses for postgraduate students are tailor-made and draw largely on the students’ interest in the Balkan region, but aim to relate to the specific disciplinary (or interdisciplinary) methodological and theoretical frameworks used in a particular research project. I also contribute to the Languages in Contact along the Danube: Intercultural Frictions and Flows and Discourses of Perfection courses at SSEES. Since academic 2017/2018, I contribute to teaching Swedish language at the Scandinavian department at SELCS.

After I obtained my degree in Scandinavian Studies in 1996, I worked as Teaching Assistant at the Scandinavian Department at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade. I moved to London in 2000. I joined SSEES in 2002.
Apart from teaching at SSEES, I taught at the University of Belgrade, Uppsala University, Morley College and and the University of Westminster.
