Biography

Chris Moseley has been Teaching Fellow in Estonian since 2007. He is a graduate of the UCL SSEESl, having done his Master’s degree in Baltic-Finnic linguistics part-time while working for BBC Monitoring, a branch of the World Service, graduating in 1993. He left the BBC in 2005, since when he has been a freelance translator, in addition to his teaching duties. He also teaches Latvian at SSEES, including evening classes. His research interest is in newly written languages and the creation of orthographies to suit them. He is also interested in linguistic geography, and is co-editing the third edition of the Routledge Atlas of the World’s Languages. For UNESCO he has edited the Atlas of the World’s Languages in Danger of Disappearing. He is also a founder member of the Foundation for Endangered Languages and has been the editor of its journal.
