Dr Agnieszka Kubal, Associate Professor in Sociology has been awarded a Visegrad Fellowship at Open Society Archives and this work in Budapest will complement HuRiEE's research into the history of home-grown human rights activism in Eastern Europe and Russia (in 1970s and 1980s). The fellowship comes with a small stipend (£3,000) that will cover the cost of archival visits. The HuRiEE project (which stands for Human Rights in Eastern Europe and Russia) looks at the unprecedented human rights mobilisation in five countries of Eastern Europe – Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, and Russia – whose citizens until recently brought more than fifty per cent of all the claims to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
