Call for Papers: Global Perspectives on Political Participation in Later Life

The two-day conference will provide a platform to discuss the often-overlooked theme of political engagement among older adults worldwide.
Dates: 2 May 2024 – 3 May 2024, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm.
Location: UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies, 16 Taviton street, London, UK.
Format: In person.

About the Conference: The two-day conference will provide a platform to discuss the often-overlooked theme of political engagement among older adults worldwide. This interdisciplinary event aims to shed light on the representations, experiences, and outcomes of political participation in later life in different countries and localities. We seek to expand the theoretical understanding, and the empirical and methodological exploration of political participation in later life. Participants will be invited to contribute to a special issue proposal.
Keynote Speaker: Prof. Lynne Segal, Anniversary Professor Emerita of Psychosocial Studies at Birkbeck, University of London.
Key Themes: We invite research papers that address, but are not limited to, the following themes:
- What counts as political (non)participation in later life in various contexts;
- Global perspectives on ‘success’ and ‘failure’ of political participation in later life;
- Intergenerational conflicts and solidarity.
Submission Guidelines: Prospective authors are encouraged to submit abstracts (maximum 300 words) in English. Please include:

Notification of Acceptance: Notification of acceptance will be sent by 4 March 2024.
We will not be able to offer travel grants, but the conference is free of charge; lunch and refreshments will be provided.
