Russian Speaking Club

The SSEES Language & Culture programme area has supported the creation of Russian Speaking Club. The aim is to provide an informal setting for those learning Russian to come and chat to other students and staff. The format of the discussion is loosely structured and no preparation is required; students are invited to simply come and have a chat in Russian. The club is open to all levels, although those who have just started learning Russian would get more out of the club by joining in Term 2. Everybody involved decides which topics to discuss and the group is flexible in what and how it runs. The most important principle is to involve everybody present and to give everybody a chance to say something in Russian. No registration or membership is required, and no costs are involved.  The Club operates on a drop-in basis though it is hoped there will be regulars.

The Club meets on Thursdays at 5pm and is run by two SSEES lecturers – Natasha Parker and Erkin Sagiev. The first meeting took place on 26th October and had 15 students attending. At the following meeting we talked about housing in Russian-speaking countries, as well as our plans for the Reading Week. For the rest of the term the group be based in Gordon Square, 21, Room 104.

Please feel free to join and email Natasha Parker if you have any queries or wish to find out more.
