Dr Mateusz Karolak, the Vice-Director of the Institute of Sociology Visiting SSEES

Dr Mateusz Karolak, the Vice-Director of the Institute of Sociology at the University of Wrocław is visiting SSEES from 22 May to 14 June.

Welcome to Dr Mateusz Karolak, the Vice-Director of the Institute of Sociology at the University of Wrocław, who is visiting SSEES from 22 May to 14 June. Dr Karolak has come as part of the Polish programme to support the mobility of academic teachers. The visit of Dr Karolak is supervised by Prof Anne White. During his stay, Dr Karolak will among other things present a paper based on his recent research on migrant essential workers in Poland to the conference "Poland: migrants’ perspectives and experiences". Currently he is involved in several international research projects such as: 

  • LYMAS: "Life strategies of Young Labour Migrants in Ageing Societiesfunded by the Volkswagen Stiftung
  • ENDURE: "Inequalities, Community Resilience and New Governance Modalities in a Post-Pandemic World” funded by the Trans-Atlantic Platform for Social Sciences and Humanities
  • COV-WORK: “Socio-economic consciousness, work experiences and coping strategies of Poles in the context of the post-pandemic crisis”; funded by the National Science Center Poland

Previously Dr Karolak conducted research on experiences of labour migrants returning from the UK to Poland, as well as on the right-wing populism among young Poles and Germans. More recently, he is also a fan of digital sociology and quantitative methods of social media discourse analysis.
