SSEES Welcomes First Bracewell Scholar

6 March 2023

Meeting of Prof Wendy Bracewell and research Martyna Miernecka outside the SSEES building, Taviton Street

We are delighted to welcome the first Bracewell Travelling Scholar to SSEES this term, Martyna Miernecka, who had the opportunity to meet with benefactor of the scheme, Professor Wendy Bracewell, at the end of February.

The Bracewell Travelling Scholarship supports PhD students from the SSEES region (excluding Germany and Russia) who wish to spend up to a term at UCL working with SSEES academics, pursuing their own research and contributing as appropriate to the intellectual life of the School. Martyna's research centres around socialist institutions for artists in Central and South-Eastern European context (the "House of Creative Work" cultural phenomenon in particular). She visits us from from the Institute of Polish Culture, University of Warsaw.

On her meeting with Wendy, Martyna comments: 'It was a great meeting for me, really inspiring both in terms of my research and work-life balance. Thank you once again for this opportunity.'

The Bracewell Travelling Scholarship is now open for the academic year 2023-24; applications close 31 May 2023.
