The Dr Philippa Hetherington Memorial Fund

In November 2022, we were deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Philippa Hetherington, historian and much-loved colleague, teacher and friend. In her name, this fund will support SSEES PhD students through an award of a travel grant, to enable international research

In memory of Philippa, the School has launched the Dr Philippa Hetherington Memorial Fund, which will support PhD students through the Philippa Hetherington History Research Travel Grant. Funds raised are expected to support at least one SSEES History PhD student each year with a travel grant to carry out research overseas.  

Philippa’s international outlook in both her research and personal life is reflected in the fact that the scholarship will be open to applicants from the UK or Overseas. Any PhD student studying under a member of SSEES History staff will be eligible to apply.
