Prof Richard Butterwick-Pawlikowski wins Historical Book of the Year Award

On Thursday 15 June 2023, Prof Richard Butterwick-Pawlikowski, Professor of Polish-Lithuanian History, received the Polish Historical Society's Historical Book of the Year Award for ‘Światło i płomień. Odrodzenie i zniszczenie Rzeczypospolitej (1733-1795)’ [Light and Flame: The Renascence and Destruction of the Commonwealth (1733-1795)]. Congratulations!

The Prize, which is open to syntheses, monographs, and source editions published in Poland about any historical period or subject, is awarded in memory of the distinguished medievalist and statesman, Professor Karol Modzelewski, as a result of a vote among Poland's Deans of History Faculties and Directors of History Institutes. It is conferred at the annual gathering of the said deans and directors organized by the Polish Historical Society, which this year took place at the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce.
