Call for papers: SLOVO Journal

Slovo is now open for submissions for our spring 2023 issue!

We welcome research articles, as well as book and film review submissions from postgraduate students and researchers in any discipline, from history to politics and anthropology to literature, as it relates to Central and Eastern Europe, as well as — and especially so — Central Asia. We also encourage submissions relating to Ukraine. Additionally, we welcome translations of works previously unpublished in English, as well as original poetry.

We are especially keen to receive book and film review submissions this cycle. Here are some works which we encourage you to review:

Books:

  • The Zelensky Effect (2022) by Olga Onuch and Henry E. Hale
  • I’d Like to Say Sorry, But There’s No One to Say Sorry (2022) to by Mikołaj Grynberg
  • The Cinema of Soviet Kazakhstan 1925–1991 An Uneasy Legacy (2021) by Peter Rollberg
  • Russian Homophobia from Stalin to Sochi (2017) by Dan Healey

Films:

  • Klondike (2022) by Maryna Er Gorbach
  • November (2017) by Rainer Sarnet
  • The Turin Horse (2011) by Béla Tarr and Ágnes Hranitzky
  • Daisies (1966) by Věra Chytilová

The deadline for submission is Thursday 15th December at 23:59 (GMT). All submissions should be made via Slovo’s website: https://student-journals.ucl.ac.uk/slovo/submissions/

Submissions that do not adhere to the MHRA style guide will be rejected. Please send any queries to slovopostgraduatejournal@gmail.com
