Congratulations to Charlotte Doesburg, who passed her viva with minor corrections. Her PhD thesis entitled ‘The Adaptation and Appropriation of the Kalevala and Folk Poetry in Finnish Metal Music’ was examined by Prof Thomas DuBois, Professor of Scandinavian Studies, Folklore, and Religious Studies at University of Wisconsin-Madison and Prof Jakob Stougaard-Nielsen, Professor of Scandinavian and Comparative Literature at UCL SELCS. Charlotte’s supervisors were Dr Riitta Valijarvi, Associate Professor (Teaching) in Finnish and Minority Languages at SSEES, and Prof Titus Hjelm, Prof in the Study of Religion at University of Helsinki and Honorary Research Associate at SSEES  (until 2018 Reader in Sociology).
