8 декабря 2021 года исполнилось 30 лет со дня подписания Беловежских соглашений, что означало конец государства Советский Союз. Тогда же был Россией, Украиной и Белоруссией был подписан договор о создании Содружества Независимых Государств (СНГ). Как возникла и реализовалась идея Беловежского консенсуса, каково его долгосрочное влияние на постсоветское пространство и на ситуацию в мире, - об этом расскажет в своем докладе один из главных участников событий, Геннадий Эдуардович Бурбулис.
8 December 2021 saw the thirtieth anniversary of the signing of the Belovezh Accords, which signified the end of the Soviet Union and the creation of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). At this SSEES Culture and Society in Modern Russia seminar, Gennady Eduardovich Burbulis – one of the main participants in this historic event in 1991 – will discuss the Accords and their long-term significance.

About the speaker
Геннадий Эдуардович Бурбулис – родившийся на Урале в 1945 году. Окончил Философский факультет Уральского государственного университета в Свердловске (Екатеринбурге) и начал свою карьеру на академической работе, но с 1987 года ушел в политику, занимая разные высокие должности в правительстве. В Москве он сблизился со своим земляком Б. Ельциным и был влиятельной фигурой в российской политике, когда Ельцин стал Президентом Российской Федерации. Бурбулис был одним из инициаторов экономических реформ 1990-х годов. Один из авторов и архитектор Беловежских соглашений, он вместе с Ельциным подписал договор о распаде Советского Союза.
Gennady Eduardovich Burbulis – was born in the Ural region in 1945. He graduated from the Philosophical Faculty of Sverdlovsk (now: Ekaterinburg) State University and started his career in academia. Since 1987 he began to be involved in politics and held several high positions in the first government of the Russian Federation. In the early 1990s, he was one of the main architects of Russian political and economic reforms. A close associate of Boris Yelsin, he was one of the drafters and signers of the Belavezha Accords on behalf of Russia, which signified the disintegration of the Soviet Union.
