Interested in studying with us at the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES)? Our online taster lectures are aimed at sixth form students who are interested in studying with us at undergraduate level.

On Thursday 14th January, Dr Agnieszka Kubal will be presenting a one off online politics lecture aimed at students interested in our politics BA programmes. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet a SSEES academic, learn more about the programme and experience what it’s like to study at one of the world's very best universities.

Lecture Title: The Russian Echoes of the Syrian refugee crisis.

Abstract: The civil war in Syria resulted in a massive population displacement of over 5.6 million people, who since 2011 sought safety in Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan, and Europe. Russia is militarily involved in the Syrian conflict. How about its responsibility for Syrian refugees? In this lecture, drawing on my research with Syrian refugees in Russia, I will address and contextualise some of the main concepts that you will study as part of the Politics and Sociology BA programme at SSEES: democracy, security, human rights and migration.
