Agnes Branner

Agnes teaches Hungarian as a foreign language at the Short Courses Programme, from beginners to advanced levels. She is a linguist and professional translator with a background in teaching. She has a master’s degree from Szeged University, one of the leading universities in Hungary, where she studied Hungarian Linguistics and Philology.

She has worked in the localisation industry for both media and tech businesses, and as a translator on various EU funded projects both in London and Brussels. Her most recent translation project is a children’s educational book on Covid 19 for hospitals.

In addition, she is a certified teacher of English as a foreign language and speaks fluent French.

She is also a musician and violinist in London with the aim of spreading the cultural heritage of Hungarian and Eastern European traditions.

Her main interests include language learning processes, preserving endangered languages such as Romani, and she is particularly interested in the cognitive learning connection between music and language.

Amongst the many reasons for students to learn Hungarian is to communicate with family members or work colleagues, which requires the focus on communication. The lessons are both fun and in depth, covering everyday vocabulary and more concentrated grammar.
