Rachel Whitereadhas created a new work of art for the Whitechapel Gallery's façade - The Tree of Life. The commission is made possible by the Art Fund and is part of the London 2012 Festival, creating a lasting artistic legacy for one of the city’s most important streets. Jana Bercelova, 1st year undergraduate sculpture, has been selected for an UCL Institute of Making summer studentship with Susanne Kuechler and Melanie Jackson as supervisors.

The winner of the 2012 Catlin Art Prize is Julia Vogl, a 2011 graduate of the UCL Slade School of Fine Art. She is the sixth winner of the annual Catlin Art Prize, a competition showcasing the work of recent graduates of UK art schools. The award was in respect of her ‘social sculpture’ titled ‘Let's Hang Out’. The work invites visitors to create a communal area by selecting and affixing coloured carpet titles that colour-correspond with Julia's suggestions of various pastimes (such as ‘call Mum’, ‘tweet’, etc.). The work will evolve throughout the duration of the Catlin Art Prize exhibition while encouraging visitors to interact – and hang out. See www.artcatlin.com.

Jo Volley PI with Onya McCausland as Research Assistant have been awarded a UCL Small Research Grant to work in collaboration with Dr Ruth Siddall, Earth Sciences UCL and Dr Spike Bucklow , Senior Research Scientist, Cambridge University and author of The Alchemy of Paint. The research proposes to establish a unique physical connection between landscape, pigment and painting.

Grace Schwindt is premiering her new film Tenant at Collective Gallery, 22-28 Cockburn Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1NY from 21 - 27 May 2012. She will also present a new live performance Glass and Honey on Sunday 22 April at 8pm. See www.collectivegallery.net.
