Art on the Underground commission ‘PAN AFRICAN FLAGS FOR THE RELIC TRAVELLERS’ ALLIANCE’

A collaboration between Art on the Underground and Slade School of Fine Art.

Join artist and Slade Alumni Larry Achiampong in-conversation with The Showroom Director Elvira Dyangani Ose to discuss his current Art on the Underground commission ‘PAN AFRICAN FLAGS FOR THE RELIC TRAVELLERS’ ALLIANCE’.

As part of the Achiampong’s on-going multi-disciplinary and multi-site project ‘Relic Traveller’, the artist has interrupted the traditional red and blue logo that since 1908 has been synonymous with the Underground and London. The commission seeks to consider the possibilities of alternate histories and forms part of Art on the Underground’s 2019 programme which looks at the role artists can play in forming ideas of togetherness and belonging.

Elvira Dyangani Ose is Director of The Showroom, London. She is currently affiliated to the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, the Thought Council at the Fondazione Prada and Tate Modern Advisory Council. Until November 2018, she served as Creative Time Senior Curator, where she most recently curated their 11th edition of their Summit. Previously, she curated Laura Lima’s Horse Takes King, the last iteration of the four-part project, Slight Agitation at the Fondazione Prada, where since 2015 she has curated exhibitions such as, Theaster Gates’s True Value, Nástio Mosquito’s T.T.T. Template Temples of Tenacity and Betye Saar: Uneasy Dancer.

The event takes place at the Darwin Building B40 Lecture Theatre, Darwin Walk (Off Malet Place), London WC1E 6BT, on Thursday 13 February, 6:30 - 8:00pm. Tickets available on Eventbrite: http://bit.ly/achiampong-talk.
