Introduction to Digital Dentistry

Overview

This one-day course aims to familiarise you with the concepts of fast-developing digital dentistry and how it can impact patient dental care.

Course aims

  • You will learn about the mechanisms of data acquisition, designing and manufacturing dental restorations in a cost and time-effective manner.
  • You will learn how to scan dentate, partially dentate, and edentulous patients quickly and effectively. 
  • You'll use specifically designed models on phantom heads, which offer the closest experience available to work on a live patient. 
  • You also scan full dental arch, with bite records on each other using our dental clinics equipped with cutting-edge facilities. 
  • You will benefit from various specialist (restorative and dental materials) opinions on materials and techniques.
  • You will learn about various iteral oral scanners and how and when to use digital systems.
  • You will learn how to reduce the time and cost of dental treatments using digital workflow.
  • You will learn how Hybrid workflow can overcome some of the shortcomings of digital and analogue systems.

The course is aimed at dentists at any stage of their career. You may be:

Course content

  • The course comprises a comprehensive but concise lecture covering all aspects of digital dentistry from data acquisition to designing and manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on practice of scanning dental models 
  • Clinical training in intraoral scanning 

Teaching and structure 

You'll learn through a combination of:

  • 50% lectures, interactive seminars.
  • 50% skills laboratory and clinic hands-on training.

Entry requirements

You must hold an approved dental qualification.

Neil Nathwani

Neil is an Associate Clinical Professor at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. He's worked in NHS and private practice for the last 17 years and currently works in specialist practices as a specialist Prosthodontist accepting referrals from general dentists. He currently is the deputy programme director of the MSc in Restorative Dental Practice programme and teaches postgraduate students on the RDP course, as well as other short CPD courses. He also delivers courses nationally to general dentists on various topics of restorative dentistry
