Call for mentee applications for ACCELERATE Innovation: Mentoring for Medical Innovation.
1 October 2020
Calling all UCL early career researchers (final year PhD to early PI) interested in medical innovation and translational research!
Would you like to have support with navigating the challenges of medical innovation and translational research?
Would you like to be mentored by a senior innovation leader in the field?
Our new mentorship programme will provide a unique opportunity to be supported by one-on-one mentoring with leading medical innovators from CASMI - The Collaboration for the Advancement of Sustainable Medical Innovation. Expert training and resources will be provided throughout the scheme to get the most out of the experience for both mentees and mentors.
The scheme is a collaboration between ACCELERATE Translational Research Training Programme and CASMI.
When: November 2020 – June 2021 (see below for details outlining the commitment for mentees).
Where: Online – further details will be provided to shortlisted applicants.
Eligibility: Researchers at UCL who are involved in, or are positioning themselves to get involved in, translational research. We especially encourage applications from early career researchers (final year PhD to early PI).
Apply: Applications close on 28 October 2020 (23:59 GMT). There are limited spots available and shortlisted applicants will be notified by 6 November.
Find the application form and apply here.
The commitment for mentees:
- One-on-one mentoring sessions: Prepare for and attend 3-6 meetings (remotely) with your mentor over a defined 6 month period (December 2020 – June 2021). Meeting details will be decided by each mentor-mentee pair.
- Mentoring masterclass: All mentors and mentees will attend a 2 hour online masterclass (dates in November 2020) on mentoring practice with an expert mentoring facilitator to support mentors and mentees to get the most out of the scheme. This session will set the expectations and rules of the mentor-mentee relationship.
- Launch Event: Find your mentor match through an online, structured speed networking activity (December 2020). By the end of this session mentees will have had the opportunity to meet all mentors and shortlist their top choices. Further details about the matching process will be provided closer to the event to shortlisted applicants. In addition, the launch event will be an opportunity to network with other mentees on the scheme.
Ongoing support for mentors and mentees: In addition to the online masterclass on mentoring practice at the start of the scheme, additional training, support and resources will be made available throughout the scheme.
