This is the first in our career-focused IRDR Careers Workshops series, which are an essential complement to our academic programmes. This series aims to enable students to identify their career goals and get best prepared to achieve them.

Consultants are highly experienced practitioners who can offer organisations their expertise on all aspects of disaster risk reduction and business continuity. They are often multidisciplinary and use this holistic approach to advise their clients. But what skills does it take to be a successful consultant? And what you can you expect if you choose this sector after graduating?

This online session features a panel of speakers who are involved in different types and sizes of consultancy. We'll begin with introducing them and their areas of expertise, then look at some of the highs and lows of projects that they have been involved in, as well as the skills they look for in a consultant. You'll be able to ask plenty of questions and get a real feel for the industry.

Then we'll move on to a practical exercise where you will play the part of consultants, negotiating with a client who likes to push boundaries! How will you keep the project on track and manage their expectations? Your panel of experts will be on hand to give you advice.
